The Romanian Gendarmerie, through its specialized structures, has the following attributions:
- To protect public order and peace, the citizens fundamental rights and freedom, the public and private property
- To prevent and detect crimes and other violations of the law into force
- To counter terrorist actions
- To protect the fundamental institutions of the state
- To accomplish international missions
